about

Being for the benefit of Australian wildlife affected by the recent catastrophic bushfires.

A treasure trove of demos, outtakes, covers, exclusive live recordings and buried gems with 100% of proceeds going to WIRES Australian Wildlife Rescue Organisation (wires.org.au) and Wildlife Victoria (wildlifevictoria.org.au).

Q: How do you self-isolate when there's no home to hole up in?

When the Australian bushfires made international news in 2019 and early 2020, images of burned and injured koalas, kangaroos, and wombats were beamed across the world. It’s estimated that more than 1 billion Australian native animals died across the 12.6 million hectares that burned – for an idea of size, that’s the whole of Pennsylvania, or the entirety of Greece – but the battle hasn’t ended now that the flames are out.

Rescued, recovered animals often have no habitat to return to, and countless millions now struggle to survive what scientists call a ‘starvation event’, where blackened wastelands offer little food or shelter for those that remain. With more than 80% of some World Heritage areas destroyed, and nearly 40% of all national park land in New South Wales alone gone up in smoke, scientists predict it will take decades for ecosystems and wildlife to recover. Some may not get that chance.

Your purchase of this album will support the monumental work WIRES and Wildlife Victoria have ahead of them to rescue, rehabilitate and release animals into a changed landscape and destroyed habitats.

Benknowledgements: My enduring gratitude to Andrew Weathers who so kindly offered his mastering services pro bono; to Justin and Jason at Aquarium Drunkard who simply said “we’ll do it!” minutes after I asked for their help; to my wife and sub-in copywriter Caro; and to all of the artists who contributed their wonderful, eclectic music.
